Freebird – A Tribute to Eva Cassidy
Eva Cassidy’s voice was like no other, pure, soulful, and
timeless. During her lifetime, she performed mostly in small clubs around
Washington D.C., moving effortlessly between jazz, blues, folk, and gospel.
Though she was little known when she passed away in 1996, her posthumous rise
to fame brought her unforgettable interpretations of Fields of Gold, Songbird,
and Over the Rainbow to millions around the world.
This tribute show celebrates Eva’s remarkable artistry with
a heartfelt journey through her most beloved songs, brought to life by a
stunning live performance. Audiences are guided from the tender beauty of
Autumn Leaves and Danny Boy to the joy and swing of her jazz favourites such as
Cheek to Cheek and Blue Skies. Blending music, stories, and quotes, the show
captures the honesty and spirit of a singer who famously said, “I don’t want to
be famous, I just want to sing.”
Accompanying the vocals on piano and backing vocals is J
Fashole-Luke, a highly respected multi-instrumentalist in demand across the UK
and Europe. Jonathan has performed at major jazz festivals including Montreux,
Vienne, North Sea and Vienna Jazz Festivals, as well as iconic UK festivals
such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Boomtown, Hyde Park, Victorious and the Isle of
Wight Festival. His career includes collaborations with award-winning jazz
artists Gary Crosby OBE, Jay Phelps and Tony Kofi, appearances at Ronnie
Scott’s Jazz Club, a performance on BBC2’s Later… with Jools Holland, and work
alongside artists such as Alexandra Burke, Dolly Parton and Usher. His
sensitive, expressive playing brings depth, authenticity and musical richness
to Eva’s timeless songs.
Whether you are a lifelong fan or discovering her music for
the first time, FREEBIRD: A Tribute to Eva Cassidy offers an evening of soul,
passion, and timeless melodies: a moving celebration of one of music’s most
cherished voices.
"In her heartfelt tribute to my late sister, Zoe Lindsay seems to effortlessly recapture the soul, spirit and beauty that I remember so well in Eva's music!" – Dan Cassidy
